Health Screening

Everyone is susceptible to illness and can benefit from the positive action and peace of mind from a health screen. Some diseases are more common in certain age groups and these will be targeted during your health screen. Some examples of a particular benefit are:
- If you are over the age of 45
- After prolonged exposure to stressful situations or a hectic lifestyle
- Before taking up physical exercise
- After birth of your baby
- Where there is a family history of illness such as heart disease, diabetes or cancer
- Where you wish to raise any fears, concerns or niggles you may have not troubled your GP with
What types of health screen do you offer?
- Well Man Health Screening / Well Woman Screening.
- Male / Female Full Health Assessment.
- Male / Female Sexual Health Screen.
What is included in each screen?
Well Man Screen
- Well Man questionnaire.
- Consultation to include a prostate and testicular examination by your screening doctor.
- Height and weight assessment.
- Body Mass Index measurements.
- Resting blood pressure.
- Full blood count (to check for anaemia) and ferritin (stored iron).
- Cholesterol test.
- PSA test.
- Urine test (to check for infection).
- Personal medical report from the test results plus a health action plan.
Well Woman Screen
- Well Woman questionnaire.
- Consultation to include a breast and pelvic examination by your screening doctor.
- Height and weight assessment.
- Body Mass Index measurements.
- Cervical smear test.
- HPV virus test- cervical cancer risk (if indicated).
- Chlamydia test (if indicated).
- Resting blood pressure.
- Full blood count ( to check for anaemia) and ferritin (stored iron).
Cholesterol test. - Urine test (to check for infection).
- Mammography (if you are 40 and over only).
- Personal medical report from the test results plus a health action plan.
Full Health Assessment
As above, but in addition to this:
- Questionnaire, to include medical, surgical domestic work and lifestyle history.
- Urine test- includes test for diabetes and kidney disease and infection.
- Haemotology profile.
- Anaemia test.
- Hearing test.
- Vision test.
- Lung function test.
- Test for bowel cancer (over 50).
- Resting ECG.
- Biochemistry profile- includes test for kidney, thyroid and liver function.
- Mammography (over 50).
Sexual Health Screen
Includes tests for:
- Herpes.
- Chlamydia.
- Gonorrhoea.
- Candida.
- Syphilis.
- HIV & Hepatitis B and C.
- Urine test for infection, diabetes and kidney disease.
- HPV (genital warts) - women only.
- Trichomonas- women only.
- Bacterial Vaginosis.
- Other bacterial infections.
When do I get my results?
Normally within 2-3 weeks, the screening doctor will discuss this with you. Your report will explain and interpret your test results. We will then include any advice on self-examination techniquesband preventative action you can and should take to keep healthy. We will end with any recommendation for further tests or referrals to a specialist for consultation.
You may then decide to discuss these recommendations with your GP or schedule an appointment with our screening doctor to decide your next move.
